Do you remember these quotes?

These dire warnings appeared in our article in the last newsletter, and they are worth repeating. It is important to understand emergency medical help needs to find you and your loved ones as quickly as possible. I delivered a sign to a friend on the lake early in March, and she said she ordered a sign based on these terrible statistics and wanted to be assured emergency response personnel would find her house as quickly as possible. Therefore, I decided to repeat these warnings one more time.

When an emergency occurs, people expect the first responders to arrive quickly, and often they are delayed because they cannot find the correct home. Lack of a visible sign can delay the response of police officers, firefighters and emergency medical technicians. Our signs are reflective and more visible at night than the ordinary street signs you may have on a nearby tree or mailbox.

The HLWA also offers a dock sign that is reflective at night. The recently passed Dock and Mooring Ordinance (Sec. 162) requires: “Reflectors shall be affixed to the ends of a dock.” In addition: “The street number of the property (in numerals at least 3 inches high) shall be affixed to the end of a dock so as to be visible from the watercourse.”

If you would like one of these house address signs, a dock sign, or the larger green sign, you can call Dick Labich at 860.738.0167, or you can fill out the following information and mail it with your check payable to the Highland Lake Watershed Association to:
