In the last edition of the HLWA newsletter, you may recall due to lack of orders the HLWA was forced to request help from the government in the form of a stimulus loan package to avoid layoffs among the elves community. However, we are sad to report apparently the stimulus funds were only for large banks and other financial institutions, whose executive bonuses were in jeopardy if the stimulus money wasn’t quickly distributed. Small businesses and small manufacturing operations such as the elves’ factory apparently will have to suffice without any federal or state assistance.
I am sure you are aware our sign manufacturing factory, manned by the HLWA elves, has produced more than 150 house and dock address signs. However, the current economic problems have resulted in a slowdown of orders, causing serious financial problems for the factory. Unless orders for signs increase dramatically, the HLWA may have to relocate the factory to a more friendly business climate such as Florida or South Carolina. Since the main pastime of the elves is playing golf, this relocation might be looked on favorably by the labor force.
It is up to you to place an order to make sure the elves continue their employment here in Winchester and avoid placing our elves on welfare and unemployment or transferring the operation south.
The recently passed Dock and Mooring Ordinance (Sec. 162) requires: “Reflectors shall be affixed to the ends of a dock.” In addition: “The street number of the property (in numerals at least 3 inches high) shall be affixed to the end of a dock so as to be visible from the watercourse.” The elves will be glad to provide the dock address sign as well as the home address sign.
For those who are interested in placing a larger panel on their house, the HLWA elves have designed a large, green panel with an HLWA logo. If you would like one of these house address signs, a dock sign, or the larger green sign, you can call Dick Labich (big elf) at 860.738.0167, or you can fill out the following information and mail it with your check payable to the Highland Lake Watershed Association to:
Dick Labich
418 East Wakefield Boulevard
Winsted, CT 06098
I will make sure the elves get the order and deliver the signs and the posts to each home owner as soon as they are completed.
Remember, every sign order helps an elf in these turbulent times!
