First, let's reminisce a little - January found membership services busy planning our Golden Gala Dinner Dance, commencing our 50th year as an organization. I would like to thank Rhonda Marchand for her tireless energy planning all our decorations to the minutest detail, Denise Mancini for handling all incoming reservations and seating, Annemarie Janczak and Terry Platt for designing all posters and signs, and all the people who helped out. Jean Labich, Sally Fugere and I went out and solicited raffle prizes from our merchants and were very pleased with their cooperation and support. I would like to thank all our merchants who so generously gave to our event, and I would like to ask all members of HLWA to in turn support these businesses.
In February several of our members (15-20) volunteered to assist Special Olympics with their fund raiser - The Penguin Plunge. In March, Membership Services went into hibernation to rest up for the exciting events that will be coming up this spring and summer. Yes, spring is right around the corner. Soon we will be swimming and already the birds are coming home. Summer people will be moving back. Yes, Happy Spring!!! First and foremost, we will be planning our cleanup campaign - April 26, Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., followed with a luncheon at Rosemary and David Frauenhofer’s home, 602 West Wakefield Boulevard. This is a great way to meet some of your neighbors while maintaining a clean neighborhood and lake. I need someone to act as chair for this event - giving out assignments as people call. I usually divide the lake into numbered segments. I usually let them pick their area unless two pick the same area. And, yes, for those of you who want to - you may do it on Saturday if you are busy on Sunday. Please call me if you can do this. Next on our agenda, with Fran Delaney heading this special committee, will be our Bottoms Up Day. Fran is going to be needing our assistance (see his article on page 6). This event sounds so exciting and I'm looking forward to helping Fran. How about you?? In May I hope to get around the lake to visit all new residents, welcoming them with a goodie bag and a warm smile and handshake. I already have two volunteers who have asked to do this with me. This is a very special task, and it really gives me a good feeling when we welcome new people to the lake. We get to meet so many new people and look forward to talking with them. The month of June finds us sponsoring a young lady for the Laurel Festival. This is a lot of work for all of membership services members, so we all need to volunteer to help each other out in any way we can. In the next newsletter, we will talk of the annual meeting, the picnic, boat parade and a special event which will be taking place at the home of Bob and Sue Moore on Perch Rock Trail. Look for a lot of surprises coming up! I welcome and look forward to your volunteerism - please call 860.379.2303 to help with any or all events. It is work, but we get so much pleasure from this kind of work. |
