Membership Services Report - Fall 2009

by Pat Masucci

Membership services started in 1998 with just three people wanting to go out and approach new residents with a welcome basket. Terry Platt, Fran Delaney and I met with just that small job in mind. Little did we know we would become the committee we are today. I feel like I should stand and give accolades to all the people who have helped us on this committee throughout the past years. I feel like the academy awards winner thanking everyone who has propelled us forward to what we are today. “Let’s see – I would like to thank the academy.” How much fun we have!!! I have enjoyed working with you all and appreciate all the time and effort you have given to this committee.

It is with sadness I say goodbye to Lynn Brennan as my cochair on this committee. Lynn did much to help us with so many projects, single-handedly running the past wine tastings, hosted at her and Jim Brandolini’s home. Lynn’s life has taken on a new turn as so often happens, but although we will miss her dearly, she will be happy in her new grandmother role. I want to wish her well, as I know I can always call on her whenever I need her advice and support. Good luck, Lynn - you will be missed!!

We are looking forward to a wonderful event next month, the “It’sAllAboutFun” relay race. I am looking for many helpers to act as marshals on the road and water, keeping everyone safe. I’ll also need some timekeepers and support crew. Forms for entering the race can be found on www.hlwa.org. Jack Rouleau is in charge of this event, which we run concurrently with the Town.

Then it will be time for our lake cleanup in October before the leaves fall and make it difficult for us to find all that trash that needs to be picked up. If you are interested in helping us out, call me at 860.379.2303, or email hlwa@snet.net. Start now picking up on the road in front of your house. This is a good way to teach your children and grandchildren about the importance of cleanliness in their lives and roadways. It just doesn’t pay to litter . . .

October will also find the membership services committee busy planning for the fall festival in Winsted center. An antique boat display is planned for this same day as well as other antique boat motors and items. Jack Rouleau is also in charge of this event. Anyone wishing to help him with either event should contact Jack and Marlene Rouleau at 860.738.0721 or me at 860.379.2303.

If I remember correctly, last December Jackie Mulvey said she would run the Christmas sing–a-long with Fran Delaney. We are going to be practiced and in full voice this next Christmas. Invite us to your home to sing for you and your loved ones.

I’m hoping many people come forth who would like to serve on this committee and meet so many wonderful people striving to help our home – Highland Lake.
