A Change of Plans
Does anyone else, besides me, feel slighted? I feel so bad the famous Gator Parade did not come around all of Highland Lake this year as it has in the past.
I overheard someone from Winchester Center making the same remark about their area of town also.
I realize the route was announced in the Winsted Journal, but nowhere did it say the route had been changed. I believe people just didn’t pay attention to what it was actually saying. I mapped it out in my mind and thought they are not coming around the lake. I was advised to call the fire department and ask, so I approached a fireman and asked him and was told an affirmative “Yes” - they were definitely coming around the lake.
The route was announced a second time, but I felt the paper was wrong.
From a distance I spotted the parade coming down Sucker Brook Road and thought to myself, “Let me see you come around the lake.” It disappeared around the bend going in the opposite direction. My husband and I drove to Resha Beach, saw people waiting at the ends of Perch Rock Trail and Shore Drive, and thought, “I hope I’m wrong.” But they waited there and a parade never materialized in front of them. Alas and alack, I was not wrong – the Gator Parade had skipped most of Highland Lake and several people were, I’m sure, most disappointed. Please, when changes are made to a scheduled event, announce to read carefully for the changes which are included.
Am I the only one who is so much of a kid at heart that I missed this little event coming right in front of my home?
