HLWA Legacy Program—Matching Donations

by Dick Labich

The HLWA Board of Directors is very pleased to announce a friend of the lake has proposed to fund an anonymous matching donation program for land acquisitions of $10,000 per year ($20,000 with match). The purpose of the fund is to acquire open space in the watershed and to preserve it as undeveloped space for the protection of the watershed.

The funds would be accumulated in a separate account and used for land purchases only, i.e., no money from the fund would be spent on legal or other related costs. Those costs would be covered by the general HLWA funds.

This generous donation provides an opportunity for the HLWA to acquire additional land, but we will need other friends of the lake to step forward and match this donation. If you would like to donate to the matching fund, or have other questions, please call Mike Peacock (860.379.1941), Gerry Stevens (860.379.1596) or me (860.738.0167).

The HLWA is also accepting donations of property in the watershed to keep the land in an undeveloped state. We have recently acquired one property and are presently in the process of closing on two others on the east side of the lake. We are also in the discussion stage with two other owners regarding their donations of property. If you have any undeveloped property and would like to consider the tax advantages for donating property, please give us a call.
