The Winsted Economic Development Commission (EDC), along with Hoxie’s Garage and Stewart’s Auto, are working together on an EDC fundraiser (Cash for Clunkers) to pay for new signs at entries to the Town, etc. Call Joe Marchell at 860.459.9958 to donate your unwanted car – it will be picked up and you will receive a donation receipt to use for tax deduction. No title, no problem!
We’ve been working with Public Works Director.Jim Rotondo on deicing solutions to reduce the amount of salt and eliminate the sand used during the winter on our roads. The tons of sand spread on lake roads annually have been a major cause of silting in our lake inlets and causing shallow areas, promoting weed growth. The sand also carries pollutants that are harmful to the lake.
As previously reported, Public Works is working on a five-year capital improvements plan, including the backlog of projects around the lake, such as the deteriorating barriers along West Wakefield Boulevard at second bay, repairing/replacing road drains, etc.
Completion of the road work on East Wakefield Boulevard in the vicinity of the intersection with Norcross Road will proceed as soon as certain utility relocations are completed by CL&P.
Jim Rotondo is assisting HLWA by reviewing State plans for a project to stop sand and other pollutants from being carried into the lake by Sucker Brook.
